Recreation of the first ever letterboxing gathering in the US. Well, not really, cause I suspect I'll be the only one there from that original gathering, tho I intend to e-mail others who were there. Lets hope they show, but no one should expect it.
If you are used to typical AQ gatherings, you will be disappointed, so don't come. If you wish to talk about letterboxing, you will be disappointed, so don't come. If you wish to do exchanges, you will be disappointed, so don't come. If you wish hike or trail run awesome mountains in the day, maybe snag some historic and non drive by letterboxes along the way, and then hang out at the bar between 8 and 12 at night, then consider coming.
I'll be at the Inn at Long Trail in Killington VT between 8 and 12 on 4 Apr. I'll be wearing a hat that says "Nebraska". Hope to see you there.

Wish we could make it but the holiday will get in the way. Have a great time - would have loved to spend some time with you all!

I've been around a long time but don't consider myself one of the old timers. However, this is still the only national List I look at and I do appreciate the history of letterboxing in North America, especially places like this. I had the pleasure of spending the night at Long Trail Inn after attending Live & Breathe XV and it did not take too much imagination to visualize the first Gathering there. Just wish I could have been there. But I did the next best thing the next morning by finding some of the boxes placed above the Inn for that gathering. Even if nobody shows up for this event, at least it brought our some of the "old timers" on this List. Good to hear from y'all!

Re: in the unlikely event ...
I wouldn't have caught anything on Atlasquest, I only read this list and there's not been much to read. I came in to letter boxing via a short blurb in some hiking rag. It was prior to leaving RI, which we did in '99, so I guess I probably wouldn't have been "in" to it long enough to gather. ;). I was in your neck of the woods this week, Randy, and smiled fondly as I drove past your favorite Asian restaurant - is it still there? Not beer in a pub, but the spirit nonetheless.
Re: in the unlikely event ...
I would have to pull old log books to see when I got it, but Rae's box out in the Cape area was one of my favorites. Loved the story on that one-clue writing that didn't involve, walk three paces to the mailbox...

PS - Would love for some of the "old timers" to make it to a TALE (Texas Annual Letterboxing Event) some day!
